ŞENGAL – YPJ General Command announced in a written statement on 11 August that fighter Vejin Jiyan (Hîcran Ecûz), who was seriously injured in the accident that occurred on July 27, was martyred. Martyr Vejin was one of the young women who rushed to help the Yazidi people after the ISIS gangs attacked Shengal.
Martyr Vejin Jiyan was commemorated with an event led by Shengal Young Women’s Union. The event was held at the Martyr Dilgeş and Martyr Berxwedan cemetery. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony, as well as representatives of institutions and organizations of the Yazidi community.
The ceremony started with a minute’s silence, followed by candles lit by Yazidi mothers. Speaking on behalf of the Young Women’s Union, Sara Botan commemorated all the martyrs of the freedom struggle in the person of Martyr Vejin and said that Martyr Vejin was one of the women who felt responsible at her young age. In order to protect the people, ISIS gangs moved towards Shengal after the attack. She has worked non-stop for years for the Yazidi community to have willpower and to establish her own organization.
With her resistance, she became a part of our people and felt responsible to society everywhere. Botan also said that as Shengal young women, they will take the martyr’s struggle and resistance as an example. We will increase our resistance so that the martyr can sleep comfortably and realize his dreams.
Speaking on behalf of the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement and the families of the martyrs, Pakiza Celal said: Yes, it is true that we are saddened by the martyrdom of these friends, but the line they set before us will continue until we achieve success, and we will continue to realize their dreams and strengthen their dreams.
Afterwards, a cinevision about Martyr Vejin’s life was screened and the commemoration ceremony ended with the slogans of ‘martyr are immortal’.
