TURIN – In Turin, Italy on the evening of the 20th of July internationalist youth made an memorial for the German Gerîla Şehîd Azad Şerger (Thomas Johann), who was mayrtered on June 15th together with Şehîd Asya Kanîreş and Şehîd Koçer Medya in an Turkish drone strike against Xakurkê.
Youth from all kinds of movements and individuals in solidarity with the Kurdish movement and the revolution in Rojava came together to remember Şehîd Azad. After a minute of silence a speech was held in which the internationalists said that ‘ the search for truth of Azad and Asya illuminates the way to an answer to the question of what internationalism means’.
In order to give an internationalist answer to the mayrterdom of our comrade Ş. Azad different groups and individuals from different countries, backgrounds and movements shared songs, speeches, poems and more from revolutionary culture all over the world. In this spirit Ş. Azad was memorized and the 11th anniversary of the Rojava revolution under the slogan ‘11 years revolution of hope’ was celebrated.
Youth from student movements, from the social centers in Turin, workers from mostly northern Africa who are being massively exploited by their company (and for that are currently in strike and blocking the entrance for transporters for weeks) and youth from other movements participated in the evening. With lots of strength and creativity Italian partizan songs and together with the children from Askatasunawere – the anti-racist social center in Turin, revolutionary songs were sang, poems of Rosa Luxemburg and poems for the revolution in Kurdistan, the meaning of ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ were read. An analysis of the music video ‘li herî jorê’ was made and a video of ypg about the revolution was watched together.
At last all together an govend class was held and with lots of strength and moral different movements came together, united in their hope in the revolution.
In the end the internationalists shouted Italian slogans:
